Welcome to the Salon! We have an incredible lineup of events, and an amazing community of entrepreneurs gathering over the next 9 months.

Below you will find detailed information on each dinner. Before you book your dinners for the 2019/2020 Salon season, please watch these 2 short videos:

HOW TO REGISTER FOR YOUR DINNERS

instructions for booking your dinners

For those of you that aren’t patient enough to sit through a 3-minute video, here are some written instructions.

It should take you less than a minute to book each dinner, so you should be able to complete the whole process in 5 minutes or less. I know it’s not the most elegant process, and I will have something better next time around, but for now your patience is appreciated.

There are 26 Salon members, with 18 member seats reserved for each of the 9 dinners (plus a few drop-in tickets that will be released on Oct. 21).

In order to ensure you get a seat at the dinners you want, I recommend you sign up as soon as possible on the 16th.

  1. Copy your coupon code from the email you received.

  2. Scroll through the events below, then click on the ‘Book your seat at the table’ below each event you want to attend (note: the three 2019 dinners are grouped together on the same signup page, and the six 2020 dinners are on a separate page)

  3. The top right of each signup page will show the availability for each dinner (there are 18 member spots available for each dinner - once it’s full it’s full, so sign up early to get the dinners you want)

  4. Paste your coupon code into the coupon code field on the signup page, and click Apply. This should bring the price to $0 (your coupon is valid for 6 uses)

  5. Enter your name and other details (sorry, you’ll need to do this for each dinner - one of the limitations of my current software)

  6. Under ‘Choose your pricing option’, click on the session you want to attend

  7. Click ‘Complete Order

  8. Put the date in your calendar (I’ll be emailing 3 days before, but put it in your calendar so you don’t double-book yourself!)

  9. Repeat the process until you’ve booked 6 dinners.


Dietary Restrictions

The abbreviations below, when listed for a particular meal, denote dietary restrictions that can be accommodated during that meal. Please note that while every possible care is taken to ensure that allergens are not present, our chefs cannot guarantee that food will not come into contact with allergens.

GF: Gluten-free (not suitable for celiacs, but suitable for non-celiacs on a gluten-free diet)

C: Suitable for celiacs ie. no gluten in the kitchen at all

V: Vegetarian

VN: Vegan

D: Dairy allergy

N: Nut allergy

SF: Shellfish allergy

    James has mentored many of Ontario’s top entrepreneurs including Jayson Gaignard, Nicole Verkindt, Ted Livingston, Jennifer Dang and dozens of others.

    He is a top neural hacker – able to reset his own mind and has been an ultralearner for almost three decades now. His Massive Transformational Purpose (MTP) is to become 100% smarter every year, a feat he is on track to do for three years running now.

    Most people view their learning as a side task that they do to make a bit more money, have better relationships or to learn something new and interesting. I want am here to show you that learning and growth are fundamental skills to surviving and thriving in an exponential economy.

    This talk/workshop will explain my current general working concepts as well as will include as many actual lessons as time permits that will increase your intelligence on the spot and give you access to making exponentially better decisions. Many of these ideas will also germinate and will continue to give rewards as you continue to apply them in your lives. Exponentially better decisions = Exponentially better results.

  • Speaker: Swish Goswami

    Swish Goswami, 22, is the CEO of Trufan, a social intelligence platform that helps over eighty of the world’s biggest brands and celebrities sell directly to their top fans. His company has raised over $1M to date (from several NBA players and venture firms) and has clients like Western Union, Nike, Interscope Records and Conde Nast. 

    Swish has given three TEDx talks, secured a publishing deal with Kogan Page and a sneaker deal with K-Swiss, and is an advisor/investor in popular social companies like Dunk Media (11M follower network focused on basketball) and FaZe Clan (most popular eSports organization in the world). He has a personal following of over 100,000 and enjoys speaking around the world under North America’s prestigious bureau Speakers Spotlight. For his entrepreneurial and philanthropic achievements, Swish was inducted into Plan Canada's Top 20 under 20, recognized as Startup Canada's Young Entrepreneur of the Year and awarded the United Nation’s Outstanding Youth Leadership award. 

  • Topic: Becoming A Super-Effective CEO

    As the 22 year old CEO of a multi-million dollar startup, Swish Goswami has certainly been on the fast track when it comes to learning the ropes of being an effective CEO. While leading a team of 13, he has learned how to set a vision and inspire employees to align with it, how to hire the right people, and how to focus on top line sales while fundraising. In this session he will speak to each of these skills while also touching upon mental health and how to balance the stress and pains that come with being a CEO.

    Swish will be the first to admit that he isn't perfect and isn't an expert CEO (he likely never will be) but he promises that every lesson he shares will come from his experiences. This session will leave you with tactical tips you can act upon the next day and it will be relatable especially if you are an entrepreneur or aspiring to start your own business.

  • Speaker: Sherry Walling
    Dr. Sherry Walling helps smart people do hard things. She works with leaders and entrepreneurs to tackle the common and uncommon challenges that go along with the pursuit of an extraordinary life. As a clinical psychologist, speaker, yoga teacher, podcaster, entrepreneur, and best-selling author, she draws from her professional expertise as well as her personal experience. Her best-selling book, The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Keeping Your Shit Together, combines the insight and warmth of a therapist with the truth-telling mirth of someone who has been there.

    When she’s not in the consulting room or hopping stages around the world; Sherry can be found on her paddleboard, swinging from the rafters pretending to be a circus performer, or ushering her three kiddos through an art museum in some fabulous city.

    You are going to receive a phone call that will change your life. It may include words like canceraccident or leaving. It may involve a family member, a key employee or your own cells.     Matt Thompson is obsessed with better teamwork and collaboration. He teaches agile teamwork and collaborative leadership practises that help people become happier and more effective at work.

    He’s the author of The Joy of Teamwork: 30 simple ways to work smarter together (coming 2020). His focus is on helping organizations adopt healthy collaboration and leadership practices, simplifying agile teamwork techniques, and making work happier and more effective — mostly in the non-profit, social enterprise and civil society sectors.

    He’s also a former Senior Director of the Mozilla Foundation, CBC journalist, Rockwood Leadership Institute alumnus, and Webby Award-winning storyteller.

    Kevin White has spent his life telling stories.  As an experiential designer, he has spent the last quarter of a century working with the worlds top corporations and non-profit organizations to advance their goals through live events.  Kevin easily moves between royal, executive, political and charitable clients, helping them reach and ultimately change their audiences for the better.  He is the founder and chief strategist of the creative experiential agency XPL, founder of the executive group The Table, professor, facilitator, lecturer, always soon to be author and the father of four.  Oddly, he is also related to the only word that rhymes with orange.

  • Topic: Building a Culture of Innovation

    Innovation.  It's why some companies thrive and others simply exist.   Are you doing everything you can to nurture an innovative mindset within your company?  Hear what innovation engines like Google, Disney, and 3M doing internally to foster a culture of creativity and ideation, and how can you adopt those principles to your team. In this session, Kevin White will look at the characteristics that define such processes, explain how to best apply them in a business setting, and give resources to foster creativity at your company.

    Ran believes city farming can change the world by re-introducing all of us to how real food is made. Some of his formative childhood experiences include his grandmother’s stories about growing up on a Kibbutz, feeling democracy awaken in his childhood home of South Africa and his mom’s stuffed peppers.
